Operation Neptune  naval art prints of Operation Neptune was the naval operation in support of Operation overlord the Normandy landings on D-Day. Many Royal navy and US navy ships participated in Operation Neptune, including,. HMS wWrspite, HMS Ramallies, HMS Roberts, HMS Frobisher, HMS Mauritius and USS Texas, which are shown here in naval art prints by naval artists Ivan Berryman, Randall Wilson and Anthony Saunders.

  HMS Furbisher and HMS Roberts at Normandy  The cruiser HMS Frobisher dominates this scene off Houlgate at the Normandy landings of 1944.  The monitor HMS Roberts lies beyond Frobisher with a Large Infantry Landing Ship or LSI (L) unshipping its LCAs on the extreme right of the picture.  In the foreground, a motor launch attends a group of LCP (L)s as they head for the French beaches.  Two Spitfire Mk.IXs conduct sweeps overhead as Operation Neptune gathers momentum.

HMS Ramillies and Warspite at Normandy by Anthony Saunders  HMS Ramillies and Warspite manoeuvre into position off the coast of Normandy. The major battleships of the Home Fleet, with their massive guns which could deliver gunfire with pinpoint accuracy to 17 miles. they proved invaluable on the day of the biggest seaborne land invasion in history.

Gunline Omaha by Randall Wilson  In support of the American landings at Utah and Omaha beaches, the USS Texas slugs it out with German heavy gun emplacements during the D-Day landings.

Operation Neptune by Ivan Berryman  Forming part of the Eastern Task Force covering the landings at Normandy in June 1944, the cruiser HMS Mauritius is shown in company with the monitor HMS Roberts and the cruiser HMS Frobisher shelling German batteries at Merville, Houlgate and Benerville as the combined British and American forces embark upon what would become known forever as D-Day.

Featured Artist - Anthony Gibbs



Anthony Gibbs was born in 1951 in Birmingham. He went to Bourneville School of Art for one year, but is mostly self-taught. His first one man show was in 1976 at the Colmore Galleries, with further one man exhibitions at this venue following, in 1977, 1978, 1981, 1983, 1988 and 1991. Anthony Gibbs had a one man exhibition Nature In Art at Wallsworth Hall, Gloucestershire in 2000. His first limited edition print released February 1988 - White Tigers Ever Watchful – was an edition of 1550, the largest edition of a limited print by Solomon and Whitehead at the time, and the largest order from the from the USA (650) they have ever had. He went to Kenya for the first time in February 1989, and is a member of the Society of Animal Artists in New York, The Woodland Trust. He won the Peoples Choice Award on a national tour exhibition of the USA in 1992 and 1993, with the Society of Animal Artists. Anthony Gibbs was awarded the Award of Excellence Medal from the Society in 1997 and 2001. He has exhibited at numerous venues across the USA with the Society of Animal Artists and also across Britain – exhibitions including the Mall Galleries, Nature In Art, Wildfowl And Wetlands Trust, London. He has sold work through both Christies and Sotherbys. Anthony Gibbs went to the Yellowstone National Park and Tetons National Park to study the wildlife and habitat in the U.S.A. in 2003.
